Who is Bollywood’s King Khan: Aamir, Shahrukh or Salman?

Three “Khans” dominate Bolllywood box offices: Shahrukh, Aamir — shown above — and Salman. Our feature writer makes his choice as to who is the King of Bollywood.

There’s no such title as King of Bollywood, but we put out the challenge to readers—who is the king? Is it Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan or Salman Khan—the three best known superstars in Bollywood. Barshapri gives his opinion.

Who is the King Shah of Bollywood?

By Barshapri Yadarshini

“I have never believed that I’m a bigger star than Aamir and Salman. I will never be a bigger star than them. I truly believe that Aamir Khan is someone to learn from.” Salman Khan in an interview on Star TV.

Aamir, Shahrukh and Salman—the three Khans of Bollywood—have each built fan followings of literally hundreds-of-millions of fans worldwide. All three are superstars, all are talented—but just which Shah is King Shah of Bollywood?

(Okay, I know there’s no such title, I’m just having fun with this. Do you have a different opinion—please comment)

The Khans Gave Movie Goers a New Standard

Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan have given movie goers have raised the standards for Bollywood and the film industry generally. We have come to expect something fantastic and beautiful whenever we lineup for the latest Khan movie. Any of the Khans.

Shahrukh is undisputed (by most fans) King of Romance and the box office. Is this enough to crown him our imaginary King of Bollywood. Here, SRK romances Katrina Kaif in the upcoming Yash Chopra epic Jab Tak Hai Jaan, releasing November 13, 2012.

Shahrukh exudes a confidence and humility that appeals to fans. In an interview on Star TV he said: “I don’t think I have the talent, the natural talent of Salman Khan or the steady conscientiousness of Aamir Khan, but to achieve what I have achieved, I’ve just been lucky.”

Shahrukh the King of Romance

Aamir and Salman debuted in 1988 and 1989 respectively. Shahrukh swept into the industry in 1992, 3 years later, and took Bollywood by surprise. Though all three have tremendous influence over the masses, and I enjoy them all, still Shahrukh Khan continues to hold the title of King of Romance. This is my opinion, but also the opinion of millions. It has been used as his “nickname” in media. When he is referred to by some as King Khan, I think this mostly refers to the King of Romance, rather than King of Bollywood. His other nickname is SRK.

Aamir Khan might gain the crown for best actor. Here, he is performing in the much anticipated series Satyamev Jayate

Aamir Initially Ignored by Filmfare
Even while Aamir was shut out of Filmfare even after eight nominations, while Shahrukh has fourteen Filmfare awards to his name. Together with Dilip Kumar, SRK continues to be recognized as the most awarded film actor in Bollywood.

Aamir Khan Has Edge in Creativity
In a recent interview, the more secretive Aamir Khan said on the TV show Frankly Speaking: “It’s been a journey that transformed me.”

Aamir, though, has the edge in creative spirit. One of the things that holds Aamir back is his elusiveness with fans and the media. Where Shahrukh happily embraces gameshows and hosting gigs, and gives out a friendly warmth toward his peers and the media, Aamir remains more mysterious. Not aloof, simply elusive. Aamir is know for altruism, kindness and a giving nature, and is well-loved, but he’s less open in public about his personal life.

Aamir Khan in Satyamev Jayate.

Aamir and Shahrukh Both Superb Actors
Even though both have proved their superb acting mettle in various non-glamourous roles, still Shahrukh has become synonymous with the role of the “lover” in various romance stories, notably films directed by the great Yash Chopra. On this level, he continues to be thought of as the King of Romance.

Salman Khan plays an intense spy in Ek Tha Tiger, a blockbuster current release that is setting box office records.

Shahrukh versus Aamir versus Salman By the Numbers

Shahrukh has acted in more roles than Aamir, with a nice diversity of roles, but predominantly as romantic leads. Eleven of Shahrukh’s movies have grossed over one billion rupees.

What Does Shahrukh Really Think About Aamir and Salman:

Salman Khan has engages audiences with his unusual dance numbers, meaty dialogues and cheeky mannerisms. When it comes to numbers, he has played in more than both Shahrukh and Aamir—ten more than Shahrukh.

By the numbers,Salman is not in the same league as Shahrukh. While Salman’s net worth is in the range of U.S $ 25 million, Shahrukh is a shocking U.S $ 540 million. Why the vast difference by the numbers? Because fans of Bollywood love romance.

Shahrukh himself described it this way: “There’s one thing that I’m better in than them, and that is I’m the greatest lover in the world.” (Star TV Interview, see video above)

Don’t Count Out Salman Khan
For the most part, Salman Khan’s films have been somewhat more high budget, showy and has glamorous. Salman’s image publicly has been held back by several controversies and litigation. Even his recent rivalry and public quarrel with Shahrukh has hurt his image.

Aamir Versus Shahrukh Versus Salman on Acting Ability
Even though his popularity is solid and gaining, most of Salman’s fans are also Shahrukh’s. The majority of reviewers and fans give the nod to Shahrukh as a better actor than Salman.

Below: Aamir Khan clips and theme song for Satyamev Jayate:

Salman is a dedicated bodybuilder, which he often plays up in his films to the delight of fans. Ek Tha Tiger, a current box-office leading release, is typical of this: lots of action, fun, romance, and visual appeal. His films can tend to be more fun and light-hearted versus projects taken on by Shahrukh. Despite Shahrukh’s depth and skill, many fans would give Aamir the top marks as best actor, despite Shahrukh’s heavy weight in the awards department. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both superb.

Below: Ek Tha Tiger, released August 15, dominates the box office:

Shahrukh the Family Man
Important to domestic fans—less important internationally—is Shahrukh’s status as the perfect family man in real life. He is the epitome of a great husband and father. Aamir, on the other hand has divorced his wife of 16 years to be with Kiran Rao. Shahrukh also gets more points from the audience in this department since family values count for a lot with domestic audiences.

Shahrukh Khan, here starring in the forthcoming Jab Tak Hai Jaan with Katrina Kaif, is the undisputed King of Bollywood Romance. He’s also our feature writer’s pick for King of Bollywood.

Shahrukh Rules the Heart—and Bollywood
Shahrukh continues to rule the hearts of people all over the world and not just in India. Even though his last few films have not fared as well at the box-office, his string of hits, massive net worth, family values, acting ability and notoriety as romantic lead, makes him my choice for king of Bollywood is far from over.

Below, trailer for the much-anticipated Yash Chopra romance, releasing November 13, 2012, with the King of Romance Shahrukh Khan:

Best of all, he will continue to surprise the audience just when everyone thought that he could not get any better. With an expected mega hit, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the much-anticipated return of Yash Chopra as director, Shahrukh will no doubt solidify his leadership as box office king, and King of Hearts.

After 50 Years of Film Making Yash Chopra Still Creates Masterpieces

At 79-years-of-age, after 50 years of film making, Yash Chopra is the “prince of romance”, still pulling on the hearts and minds of billions of fans.

“Mr. Yash Chopra will never come back. Because he always resides in the hearts and minds of this country,” said Shahrukh Khan of the great Yash Chopra, regarding his come back after eight years hiatus (interview MoviezAdda). Films and Books honours the great master of the Bollywood love story, Yash Chopra.

By Pritha Banerjee

Yash Chopra is a name synonymous with romance in the Hindi film industry or Bollywood, as it is commonly known. The first Indian to be honored at the BAFTA awards, Yash Chopra is k very young at heart, despite being 79 years of age, totally in synch with audiences of all ages. His movies still stir the emotions of all people, young to old, with an uncanny and undeniable power.

After fifty years of film-making, Yash Chopra returns with his 21st film, the hugely anticipated Jab Tak Hain Jaan, starring Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.

What is the secret of Yash Chopra? “Love can never go out of fashion,” answered Yash Chopra, in an interview on LehrenRetro. “A movie is only good if it has a good story.”

The Prince of Romance
Often called the “Prince of Romance”, he even has a train named after him by Jungfrau Railways in Switzerland, one of the landscapes that looms large in his movies.

A recent exclusive interview with the great Yash Chopra:

First Yash Raj Movie
Starting his career as a director, Daag was the first movie he directed and produced under the Yash Raj banner. Daag—A Poem Of Love was adapted from the story The Mayor Of Castorbridge and starred Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna and Rakhee. Rakhee won her first Filmfare award for this movie.

Shahrukh Khan, a legend of film as a romantic lead, has this to say about the great Yash Chopra:

Wearing many hats he went on to produce and direct an long string of very successful films. A lot of actors and stars owe their epic rise and fame to Yash Chopra. The director is known for his humility and never takes credit for helping actor’s careers. From Amitabh Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan, from Rakhee to Kajol, he seems to have touched them all with a magic touch, ensuring their success film after film. In fact he was also instrumental in reviving and reinventing Amitabh Bachchan with the super hit movie Baghbaan.

Songs and Music Central
Songs played a vital role in the success of all his films. With a very keen ear for good music, Yash Chopra has never gone wrong with the selection of his songs and all have become super hits with the tunes finding their way to the lips of millions of Indians living not only in India but abroad also.

Yash Chopra Reminds us of Home
For those of us who are non-resident Indians, Yash Chopra makes us think of home, a link we have with our motherland. He also makes us think of love. Fans around the world have contributed to the phenomenal overseas success enjoyed by his films.

Eight Year Hiatus
The latest offering from the stable of Yash Raj Studios, Jab Tak Hain Jaan, marks his return as a director after eight long years. True, in these intervening years, Yash Raj Studios produced a lot of superb movies, some of which were directed by his worthy son, Aditya Chopra. The younger Chopra gave a new pair of wings to Yash Chopra’s dreams, and together they took Yash Raj Studios to dizzying heights. Truly, the father-son duo complement each other in their thoughts and ideologies.

Below: The new release from Yash Chopra in 2012 Jab Tak Hain Jaan:

The Rock of Bollywood
Married to Pamela Chopra, they have another son, Uday Chopra, who made his acting debut with Mohabbatein and went on to do super hit movies like Dhoom.

Yash Chopra is a bedrock in the ever changing world of Bollywood. His penchant for glorifying romance onscreen has in many ways, shaped the fame of Bollywood around the world. If you think of Bollywood romance, you think of Yash Chopra. Being young at heart himself, this 79 year old actor is able to rightly judge the pulse of the wants and needs of the audience, delivering hits one after the other.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN Promises to be Movie of the Year

Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif dance and sing in this year’s likely movie of the year Jab Tak Hain Jaan

By Paula Henning

Everyone who is a Bollywood fan has waited impatiently for the next Yash Chopra directed movie—and it’s been a very long wait. Too long for fans at eight long years. But, as with all good things, Jab Tak Hain Jaan will no doubt be worth the wait. It promises much with A-list stars and the best director in the business.

Katrina Kaif is a stunning screen goddess as always, and promises to light up the screens at the release of Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Superstars and a Legendary Director
Jab Tak Hain Jaan stars Shahrukh Khan (SRK), Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif—and these names alone are bound to make this a box office smash even in absence of great story and direction. Of course, with Yash Chopra, we expect both an amazing story and an spectacular film masterpiece. In other words, a near sure blockbuster.

SRK and Anushka Sharma in a dramatic scene from Jab Tak Hain Jaan. These two superstars, together with Katrina Kaif, make this an almost certain blockbuster, perhaps “the blockbuster” marking the return, after eight years, of Yash Chopra.

That “Unnamed Yash Chopra Movie”
Jab Tak Hain Jann, which original was “unnamed”—we called it the unnamed Yash Chopra movie—is scheduled to be released on the Diwali Day—13th November, 2012. Finally, with release of the name, we are treated to a short trailer of the much-anticipated romantic movie:

The King and Queen of Bollywood
Jab Tak Hain Jann is perhaps the first movie that went nameless in the pre-promotional build-up to release, perhaps part of it’s future legend. Also, promising future legend, is a film featuring romance between Bollywood’s king and queen, Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif (that’s my opinion, anyway!). Anushka’s a beauty and talent in her own right, equally a “diva.”

A romantic setup featuring SRK with the two most beautiful Bollywood superstars, Katrina and Anushka, together with the sheer poetry of Gulzar’s lyrics and A.R. Rahman’s wonderful music—can there be a bigger mix of talents in recent memory?

Each frame in the upcoming release of Jab Tak Hain Jaan is carefully framed artistry, as demonstrated with this rather cool beach shot with Shahrukh Khan featuring a scruffy but sexy beard. Yash Chopra is in his finest form, it seems.

The official first look of Jab Tak Hai Jaan—Shahrukh with his guitar (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge Style) and Katrina in her red apparel already teases fans unbearably. You can feel the romantic vibes full of life in every frame. And this is the prime characteristic of Yash Chopra films.

Each Frame Art
Each frame in the trailers is artistically framed (see some of the images in this story), from SRK on the beach by a fire, sporting a beard and looking lonely, to the “turn away” scene with the motorcycle. Craft and artistry is certainly promised in these glimpses.

Anushka Sharma looks stunning, even though her role is the “tough motorcycle girl” in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the first movie from legendary Yash Chopra in years.

Latija the Nightingale Not Featured
Sources say that the nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar will not be lending her voice to this Yash Chopra movie. Lataji’s voice is one of the important characteristic of Yashraj films. Be it Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or Veer Zara or any other movie, Lataji’s voice played a crucial role. Although fans have faith, this will be a different experience, a Yash Chopra movie without Lataji’s voice.

Even Yashji wanted Lataji to sing for his movie (according to sources). Some crew members felt that Lataji’s voice does not suit Katrina’s speaking voice. And so, if rumors are true, we may be left without the mesmerizing voice of Lataji.

Though the title of the movie was kept secret for such a long time, finally when it has been revealed, to me it is absolutely clear that the name was inspired, perhaps ironically now, by Lataji’s number, Hema Malini featured movie Sholay.

SRK’s Versatile Looks
Shahrukh shows up in trailers with his two looks—one bearded look hip look and a more traditional handsome romantic hero look. He plays the role of an army officer named Saman. Katrina is portrayed as the epitome of beauty—easily conveyed by her near-divine femininity. And Anushka is represented as a tough, gorgeous girl with a bike.

Movie of the Year
The person behind the awesome poetry of the movie is none other than Yashji’s son—Aditya Chopra.

A.R.Rehman’s music, Gulzar’s lyrics, Aditya Chopra’s poetry, Shahrukh’s signatory romance, Katrina’s breath taking beauty, Anushka’s charming personality and Yashraj Films—can there be any doubt that Jab Tak Hain Jaan will be the movie of the year (and yes, I include Ek Tha Tiger in my guess).

My Favorite Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan is No Idiot

Aamir Khan proves his comic abilities in the mega hit 3 Idiots, one the the biggest grossing films in Bollywood history.

Star of 3 Idiots is My Favorite Bollywood Star
Aamir Khan: Famous Bollywood Superstar
By Emmanuel Njuma

F&B Series: Who Is Your Favorite Bollywood Star?

Bollywood superstars compete for the love of billions of fans, and we all have our favorites. Is it Shahrukh Khan? Or Salman Khan? Katrina Kaif? My favourite is Aamir Khan.

Aamir Khan: My Favourite Bollywood Actor
Khan earned his superstar chops with a long string of hit movies, and not just as an actor, but as director and producer. His popularity is not just based, as is often the case, on looks or romance-appeal—but on creative ability and acting skill.

Aamir Khan earned his superstar status with superb acting abilities and selective choice of roles.

Aamir Khan’s Star Rising

Khan was born on 14th March 1965, but took his first part as young master Aamir at the tender age of 8 in the popular film Yadon Ki Baaraat in 1973. Although yet a child the experience propelled him to pursue his dream come to become an actor.

This saw him take part and emerge a bonafide superstar as lead in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, which earned him best debut actor in the prestigious FilmFare. Prior to that, he had been noticed in with the Holi in 1984.

Lagaan was an international Bollywood hit, a touching and gripping story of Victorian-era India that stirred emotions in all audiences.

A Selective Actor
Aamir Khan’s selectiveness was legend in Bollywood, and resulted in him almost disappearing from the film industry for a few years. Of course, famously, he made his superstar comeback in 2001 in Lagaan.

Khan was nominated and awarded various prizes as the Best Actor. His selectiveness in roles, meant he only starred in one or two per year, but this paid off with credits such as Lagaan, which swept the International Film Festivals and made him famous worldwide. Originally the part was offered to Shahrukh Khan, another superstar. Lagaan was Aamir Khan’s first venture as a producer.

Below: Lagaan marked Aamir Khan’s debut as a superstar. He also produced the film:

After Lagaan, a Victorian-period story billed as “Once Upon a Time in India”, Khan followed by several successful films such as Fanaa, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, 3 Idiots, and Satyamev Jayate in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 respectively.

Below: 3 Idiots was one of the biggest hits in Bollywood history, a comedy featuring Aamir Khan:

3 Idiots a Comic Hit
One of my favourites of all times is 3 Idiots, which allowed Khan to show his comic flair. Released in 2009, the Bollywood comedy film was directed by Rajkumar Hirani and won the prestigious Best Picture at the Bollywood Awards. A masterful screenplay by Abhijat Joshi, had audiences roaring with laughter and shedding the odd tear, despite the length of the film. In the first week or so, the film crossed the INR100 crore (US$18.1 million) benchmark, which in India makes it one of the kings of the box office.

3 Idiots was an international sensation, considered by many to be the perfect Bollywood film, with touching moments, high comedy and great song and dance. It stars Aaamir Khan and became one of Bollywood’s biggest box office champions.

The film was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and was based on a touching novel Five Point Someone, authored by Chetan Bhagat. With a superb cast—of course, featuring my favourite star Aamir Khan—3 Idiots remains memorable as a penultimate Bollywood film. It stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Parikshit Sahni and Boman Irani.

Besides acting, Khan’s production and television has made him the richest actor cum host in the Indian Bollywood cinema. That is, hosting Satyamev Jayate pays him 3 crore rupees for every event. As at present the Satyamev Jayate show is taking over the Bollywood Indian film industry.

Below: From Ghajini, Aamir Khan in top form in 2008:

Aamir Khan Very Cautious
Aamir Khan was cautious with parts. He did not hurry into any role. He also didn’t rush starting his own production company—even though he had the opportunity to inherit his uncle’s production company—and this despite the fact that superstar’s are almost expected to do so.

Khan took part in a number of public service spots, such as UNICEF child nutrition promotion and IEC campaign on malnutrition. Most of commercials he featured in were extraordinary and with a humanitarian message. Khan was more interested in the betterment of humanity than making money and was as selective in commercials as he was in film.

Khan’s Status Based on Talent

Aamir Khan is my favourite superstar in Bollywood, and certainly known as one of the most famous actors in the Bollywood film industry. This was based on artistic ability, his ability to pick roles, and—in my mind anyway—his achievements and contributions in the society. His popularity around the world earns him a permanent place in the Bollywood Hall of Fame.

Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi May Have an Expiry Date

Love Has No Expiry Date: But This Film May
By Jeet

3.5 out of 5 Rating
(4 for Comedy, 3 for Romance)

Don’t get me wrong. I like this movie. It’s charming, funny and worth a watch. It’s just not a must see, for reasons I’ll try to explain. But you will enjoy it if you venture out to buy a ticket.

Boman Irani is funny, and engaging as a single 45-year-old looking for romance who still lives at home with Mom! His characterizations are funny and real

Middle-Aged Romance
In movies, middle-aged romance is rarely portrayed well. Most romances focus on “young” love (twenty-somethings or thirty-somethings). Defying trends, Shirin Farhan Ki To Nikal Padi—Love Has No Expiry Date—is a story of two forty plus lovers. Not to mention, a forty-five year old man who still lives at home with mom. A very promising set up for a charming romantic comedy.

Boman Irani as 45-Year-Old Single
Boman Irani plays as Farhan, a 45-year-old man who works in a a lingerie shop—he calls it a “panty shop”- still waiting to find his dream girl. He plays a very simple and shy Parsi man who lives with his mother played by Daisy Irani and his grandmother played by Shammiji. He’s charming in his naiveté.

Below: The theatrical trailer for romantic Bollywood comedy Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi

Then we have Farha Khan as Shirin a forty-year-old secretary of Parsi Trust. She is also waiting for her dream mate. Both meet a couple of times, fall in love against many humorous setups. But the real hilarity begins because of Boman Iranis’ mother, who will stop their romance if it kills her.

Classic comedy setup: Boman Irani misreads his girlfriend, played by Farha Khan.

Great Setups and Touching Love
Great setups wind through this fun movie. It’s a touching love story, too, and nice to see the middle-age romance, but the truth is that this film is first and foremost just plain funny. The setups are great, the laughs are many.

Farha’s classically funny reaction to Boman’s “nude” scene is funny. Farha excels at comic timing, but is weaker when it comes to romantic roles.

Seeing a disapproving mother trying to block middle-aged lovers—who act like teenagers–is unique and fresh. Mother and grandmother are both hilarious.

A Movie For Everyone
This is a movie for everyone. The humour is inoffensive and genuine, and even young lovers would find the story touching. It’s not a complicated set up, and a bit sit-com style in humour, and the story itself is not new. The characters bring alive the humour, especially Boman Irani and Farha Khan (being introduced to film in this feature).

Against some slapstick moments, never-the-less Boman Irani brings sincerity and warmth to his role. Farha Khan is funny, and comedy is a strength, but she’s less convincing in the tender moments.

The Weakness: Romance Not That Genuine
Therein lies the real weakness of this film. It tries for high comedy and warm romance, and succeeds mostly in the former. Had Farha worked harder at this important element of her character, this film would have gone to the next level. This is Farha’s move from director and choreographer to acting, but she will need to mature over time. She has the comedy down, but not the warmth. The film, of course, introduces many songs, mostly in dream sequences.

Overall: Worth a Watch
Overall this is a cute, funny movie but probably not memorable enough to stand the test of the long-run box office. If you’re middle aged, enjoy comedy, believe in love, its worth a watch. It’s just not a “must see.”

RAAZ 3 Grips You and Won’t Let Go

Raaz 3 from Vikram Bhatt is a thriller that grips you and won’t let go. When two superstars become rivals, one resorts to black magic, with frightening results.

Vikram Bhatt’s Latest Thriller Does Actually Thrill
Review Muskansett

If you enjoy spine-chilling, jaw dropping, thriller movies, then Raaz3—from Vikram Bhatt, one of the most esteemed directors of the Hindi movie industry— is a can’t miss. Launched September 7 2012, this blockbuster thriller RAAZ 3 is a sequel to the earlier thrillers ‘RAAZ'(2002) and ‘RAAZ: The Mystery Continues'(2002), both directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by the brothers Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt.

Below: The official trailer for the sensational supernatural thriller Raaz 3 from Vikram Bhatt:

However, this movie does not suffer from sequel-sitis, the condition where each sequel deteriorates with each iteration. Raaz 3 is probably superior to its predecessors. This new release stars many new faces like the sizzling hot Emran Hasmi and the very talented, and beautiful Esha Gupta. Not to mention the Bong beauty Bipasha Basu, who also featured in the first sequel RAAZ, opposite Dino Morea.

Raaz 3 is a Bollywood thriller that tempers it’s chills and frights with pervasive sexiness and sensuality. Ultimately, it’s is a classic love-hate theme.

Since its release on the September 7, 2012, this movie has drawn crowds to the theaters in swarms, all of whom wanted to see the hot steamy, chemistry between Emran and Esha. Not all critics have been overwhelming in praise, but it is consistently pulling good reviews. I’d rate this 3.5 out of 5 for non-thriller fans, and 5 out of 5 for thriller fans.

RAAZ 3’s tagline, ‘When Desires Turn Evil’, is dead on the theme; the movie does actually deal with the interplay of good and evil desires, and how it destroys lives.

The plot of the movie is very exciting and entertaining, ringing plenty of emotions through energetic scenes involving love, jealousy, hatred, and friendship. The story revolves around a successful actress Shanaya, played by Bipasha Basu, who is at the epitome of success and popularity when the movie starts. She gets one movie offer after the other and also falls in love with a young and handsome director, Aditya, played by Emran Hasmi.

Classical “gotcha” moments will make audiences jump in Raaz 3.

Stereotypical of the movie industry, and movie stars in general, she starts to loose that coveted status to a much younger actress Sanjana, played by Esha Gupta. Sanjana’s increasing popularity starts to jeopardize Shanaya’a booming career. Petty jealousy turns to rage and a thirst for revenge on Sanjana for sabotaging her success.

Shanaya’s evil desires soon break all bounds and she resorts to black magic, to destroy Sanjana and her career. In trying to move Sanjana from her way, Shanaya also does not hesitate to use Aditya as a pawn. Although the story is more or less predictable and one dimensional, in the genre of thrillers there are enough twists, turns and frights to make this less important to the viewer. Exceptional direction and editing, and gripping acting makes up for the shortcomings in the plot.

The chemistry between Esha Gupta and Erman Hasmi burns up the screen. Raaz 3 is a must see for thriller fans.

The music of RAAZ 3 fails to reach normal Bhatt standards, at least for fans who expect nothing but blockbuster songs from Bhatt’s films. Some of the songs seemed quite irrelevant and started abruptly in places where they weren’t at all needed. But all these let down’s are certainly made up for, by Bipasha’a extraordinary acting and good direction.

For thriller fans, a must see. For Bhatt fans, a must see. For everyone else, you probably should, too.

Katrina Kaif: The Reigning Queen of Bollywood.

Profile by Barshapri Yadarshini

Katrina Kaif is always electrifying, her starring in Race. He sizzling personality, looks and engaging acting abilities propelled her to the top of Bollywood, the reigning queen of the box office.

Katrina in Two Major Films This Year
Katrina Kaif—the name has become synonymous with beauty to her countless fans in many countries. This year, with the release of two films with superstar leading men—Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan and an unnamed November release with Shahrukh Khan—her status as reigning queen of Bollywood is unchallenged (at least to her fans!)

Known for her beauty, smile, absolute elegance, flawless acting, and chemistry with other actors, Katrina is a superstar to many Bollywood fans.

Below: Katrina Kaif, Mashallah video song number from Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan:

Katrina’s abdomen became famous after her scorching performance as Sheila in Tees Maar Khan.

Katrina Born in Hong Kong
Fans do not care that she was born in Hong Kong to parents hailing from different countries. she has gone on to carve a niche for herself in the hindi film industry. Born on July 16th, 1984, she changed her surname to Kaif when she came to India from London. Her father is of Kashmiri Indian origin and her mother is of British descent.
Katrina Began as a Model at Fourteen
She started modelling at the young age of fourteen. Thereafter, she got her first part during the movie boom in 2003. Though she didn’t then understand much Hindi, her sheer determination neutralized this impediment, allowing the British actress to rise, film by film, in popularity. At that time, in 2003, no one would have guessed that she would go on to become one of the most popular actresses in Indian cinema. Worldwide, her now-famous face, is known by billions.

Katrina Fame First Established with Humko Deewaana Car Gaye

Initially, in that boom film year, she did not fare well at the box-office. She would later become famous for her relentless pursuit of the role, and even performed cameos, notably in Sarkar. Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya launched Katrina as a mainstream actress, but it wasn’t until 2006, that Humko Deewaana Kar Gaye showcased Katrina’s true acting prowess and talent. Much praised for the role as Jia, Katrina quickly moved on to star in Namaste London—a huge hit. Katrina was again appreciated for her performance in this film. It was Apne, Partner, though, that made Katrina a familiar face in every household across india.

Below: Katrina speaks with an interview about her then-upcoming role in Apne, Partner:

Race was the next milestone in Katrina’s career. The sixth consecutive film of Katrina’s to get immense success was Singh is King.

Katrina also starred in Hello and Yuvvraaj. Next came a nomination in the Filmfare best actress category. This established her permanent role as an A-List performer in Bollywood.

Katrina Kaif romances the king of hearts Shahrukh Khan on stage, delighting live audiences. Shahrukh asks Katrina if he can romance her, and he shocks her when she says “No!” Smiling mischievously, she then proceeds to romance him.

Katrina Dubs Her Own Voice
Interestingly, and part of her charm internationally, Katrina dubs all her films in her own voice for English. Katrina Kaif shared great on screen chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

Going Beyond Glamor
Katrina is indisputably the Queen of Glamor in Hindi films. But in Rajneeti Allowed Datrina, her flawless dramatic performance showed that she excelled in acting even non-glamorous roles.
Tees Maar Khan with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar came next and with Katrina a Shiela. Her gyrating dance number and her toned midriff in this film delighted fans, making her abdomen literally famous.

Another commercial success was Zindegi Na Milegi Dobara. Her second nomination as best actress came for Ki Dulhan, where Katrina stands out, as always, for poise and style. Her dance number in Agneepath also made waves throughout India.

Ek Tha Tiger
Ek Tha Tiger became a box office champion, drawing crowds largely due to the great chemistry between Katrina and Salman Khan, her ex-boyfriend. Her upcoming releases include Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Dhoom 3 and Namak.

Below: Katrina Kaif kisses Shahrukh Kahn in a hilarious live spot at the 18th Annual Colors Screen Awards. Katrina rejects the famous romantic lead Shahrukh, known as the King of Hearts, to the delight of the audience. Then, turns around and romances, and kisses him:

The Queen of Bollywood
A Hong Kong-born girl, knowing very little Hindi went on to become the Queen of the box-office in Bollywood. This is no surprise, given her talent and looks and personality, yet it is a testament to her absolute hard-work ethic, perseverance and ability to connect with audiences. Through hard work and determination, she turned disadvantages into opportunities.

Shahrukh Khan: Mild Mannered SRK, King of Hearts

Shahrukh's blend of sexiness impish charm and acting ability make him a fan favorite

Actor Profile
By Barshapri Yadarshini

I doubt Shahrukh Khan, the mild-mannered Delhi boy, imagined that he would one day become the virtually undisputed “King of Hearts” of the Hindi film industry. His name literally means face of the king. No irony there! To some, he is the king of Bollywood. Even his milder fans can’t get enough of him.
The LA Times called Sharukh “the world’s biggest movie star.” He is claimed to have billions—rather than humble millions—of fans. Today, he is CEO of a motion picture company, co-owner of a cricket team, and, around the world, a brand name. SRK, his nickname, is literally a brand name. Newsweek named him, in 2008, one of the 50 most powerful men in the world.

SRK stars in another Yash Copra Romance, said to be the hottest movie of 2012

Above: Shahrukh Khan, featured in the tease for the most anticipated movie from Bollywood this year, Yash Chopra
s romance. SRK will costar with Bollywood’s other superstar Katrina Kaif, and with Anushka Sharma. As yet, untitled, the tease (below) gives a provocative glimpse at a new hit movie in the offing.

Troubles for SRK
But SRK had to go through his share of troubles and challenges. The economics graduate from Hansraj College showed his wide talents and interests when he also pursued, thankfully, his talents at National School of Drama, Delhi.
From his role in the 1988 TV series, Fauji—at a mere 23 years old—to Yash Chopra romances, SRK has earned his way to the top on charm, acting ability and skill—and some good old fashioned good looks.

A “king” born to a Middle Class Household
SRK may now be one of the 50 most power men men in the world, but he was born to a middle-class Muslim family, November 2. The tragic loss of his father at the age of fifteen left him vulnerable. The loss of his mother in 1990, only two years after his success with Fauji, also affected him deeply. But tragedy must have inspired him to go on to become a man that his parents would have been proud of.
His marriage to Gauri Chibber, a Hindu in 1991 marked another turning point for SRK. Gauri is a Hindu, an interior designer and film producer who later gave birth to their son Aryan (1997) and daughter Suhana (2000).

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was on his maiden trip to Kashmir, expressed hope that his stay would encourage others to makes films in Kashmir. The superstar was in Kashmir to shoot for Yash Chopra’s yet untitled directorial venture, starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma

Debut and Awards
His debut in the film Deewana (1992) brought him the Filmfare award for best male debut—and grossed 14 crore (a hit!). Next came Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, a box office success. Then came films like Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam where his roles truly brought him fans, and he established a foothold in Bollywood.
SRK’s willingness to play darker roles, a murderer, an obsessive lover, only served to endear him to early fans, and proved his acting abilities.

SRK and Katrina Bollywood's hottest stars in a bathtub

Above: While waiting for the new SRK movie in November 2012, fans will be able to see the two superstars, Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, somewhat exposed in a Lux spot.

Awards, Awards, Awards
Baazigar also brought him his first of eight best actor awards. His string of hit movies continued with Karan Arjun, a big profit maker.
But it was Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (in English: The Brave Hearted Will Take the Bride), in 1995, that made him the sensation we think of today, arguably the best-known face throughout India. DDLJ went on to become the longest running film in Indian history and one of the big turning points in Shahrukh’s illustrious career.
SRK’s charm is his ability to cross genres, as competent and charming in comedy as in romance or an action thriller.
Best Actor
For Yes Boss, SRK was nominated for best actor award. Then, Dil to Pagal Hai brought SRK his third Filmfare best actor award. His films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Devdas and Chalte Chalte solidified his humble place at the pinnacle of Bollywood talent.
Success with a C
By any measure, Shahrukh is a success, whether commercial success—hit after hit, blockbuster after blockbuster—or as measured by the adulation of fans.
From Film work to Business Owner to Philanthropist
SRK probably has more hit movies to his credit than any other actor. The golden touch (or smile in his case) extends to success in business—CEO of a production company, co-owner of a cricket club, and on and on. And his generosity is well known, even if it is low key and sometimes nearly invisible. SRK does not like to be known for his charitable work, but he’s very active in many areas, from support of AIDS and cancer patients to the creation of a children’s ward at the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. He is regularly an ambassador for worthy government campaigns, including Pulse Polio immunization campaign. His work in Philanthropy is nearly as long a credit list as his films, but SRK rarely speaks of it.
SRK on stage dancing and singing

SRK is as comfortable on live stage as in front of cameras. He is a versatile favorite of fans, able to give award-winning performances in drama, thriller, romance or musical with equal passion.

Cute and Impish
His cute and impish charm has entered SRK to fans around the world, in the billions by some accounts, and he will always have a special place in the hearts of Hindi film goers.
His romantic performances in Mohabbatein and Chalte Chalte established him as the king of romance and he is adored by many fans as a romance idol. The king of hearts and his movies Veer Zaara and Kal Ho Naa Ho go deeper than the light romances, diving deep into character and emphasizing the ultimate form of love—willingness to sacrifice. His endearing portrayal of a wronged hockey player in Chak De India, and his performance in the movie My Name is Khan as a Muslim citizen of America suffering from mild asperger’s syndrome, brought most fans to tears.
Khan continues to rule the minds and hearts of the whole of the Indian subcontinent and he is almost certainly one of the ones who has made Hindi films popular in Western countries. He was rightly honored with the Padmashri.
Though he has scaled the highest mountain and is undisputed king of Bollywood (at least to me), Shahrukh Khan will only continue to grow in popularity.

Friends or Foes: Salman and Shahrukh?

Shahrukh Khan friends or foe
Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan are rivals and have their own fans

Shahrukh Khan jokes on TV with Salman Khan, sparring in a friendly-rival manner. The relationship between these two superstars fuels the news and gossip and delights (or horrifies) some fans. Salman Khan stars in the recently released Ek Tha Tiger with Katrina Kaif. Shahruk will appear in a Yash Chopra directed film releasing November 2012.

My Take on the Relationship Between These Bollywood Rivals
By Barshapri Yadarshini

Editors note: This is an opinion feature from an independent contributor. Have your say by commenting below!

While Bollywood movie lovers all over the world go gaga when Shahrukh Khan delivers a romantic dialogue or when Salman Khan rips off his shirt, the antagonism between these two actors attracts enough attention—sometimes over shadowing the publicity on their films.

Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan joke with each other on KBC:

The age old tale of friends becoming arch enemies grabs the attention of one and all and there is much hoopla and debate regarding who will best whom in the next confrontation. The actors even resort to childish tactics to gain the upper hand.
Only recently there was much gossip about how Salman khan demanded remuneration of a rupee more for ek tha tiger than what shahrukh would have charged yash raj films had he done the film. A rupee more! As if Salman would be bankrupt if he did not have that rupee!

Shahrukh Khan speaks about Salman Khan:

There was a time when Salman and Shahrukh used to act like long lost brothers. But, when Salman barged into the sets of Chalte Chalte, Shahrukh’s home production, to get some face time with his ex-flame Aishwarya Rai who had recently dumped him, Shahrukh was angered by Salman’s rough manners. Due to this, Shahrukh signed Rani Mukherjee even though some portions of the film had been shot with aishwarya rai.

Salman Khan talks about Shahrukh Khan:

Infamous Katrina Kaif birthday scene
Next came the infamous Katrina Kaif birthday bash where the bottled up anger found a vent because Shahrukh had allegedly badmouthed Aishwarya Rai. This had angered Salman and Gauri khan had apparently dragged Shahrukh back in order to prevent the actors from indulging in a game of punches and kicks.

Shahrukh Khan friends or foe

Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan delight fans with their friends-or-foes relationship, fueling gossip, news and publicity. Here, Shahrukh Khan praises Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif on the blockbuster launch of Ek Tha Tiger.

While Salman was drunk on his success back in those days and even had to spend some time in jail to come to terms with his lawlessness, he has become more responsible and mature now. Shahrukh, on the other hand, has more of a clean image which might explain the vast difference in the types of films both the actors do.
Shahrukh is King of Hearts
While Shahrukh Khan is the king of hearts, Salman khan is more of an acquired taste (my taste, I guess). Both are known for their ability to bring in the crowds. Still, the fact remains that shahrukh is a better actor than salman. Salman clearly struggles in emotional scenes and his acting is more of a flimsy and carefree nature. He has even resorted to displaying his body even when the scene does not demand it. Shahrukh has made a sensible choice in films and the audience is left mesmerized and sympathetic with the lead and his predicament. Shahrukh even has a hoard of best actor trophies to brag about as well.
King Khan Versus the King of Hearts Shahrukh

King Khan Versus the King of Hearts Shahrukh: fans love to debate who’s the king of Bollywood. Right now, Salman Khan’s box office showing with Ek Tha Tiger has his “running ahead” at least until the new Shahrukh film appears in November.

Salman and Shahrukh try their best to not cross each other’s paths and even if they do, they glare at each other all the while wishing that their vision was some sort of a death ray! Now, Bollywood movie lovers may like one better than the other, but all are eager and super-excited when it comes to seeing both Salman and Shahrukh together on screen.
Life is too short for hate and so these actors should try repairing the fences between them. Who knows what sort of miracle or apocalypse the world will see when Salman and Shahrukh come together? We can hope for the best.
